Nick Auer
Announcing our New England Musician of the Week Series: then and now, holding hope for the return of "then"
Our first week features Boston area freelance hornist, Nick Auer.
THEN: One year ago this week, Nick joined A Far Cry on stage at Jordan Hall, playing Haydn Symphony 44. His calendar was full of concerts like this one.
NOW: Today he is eking out a living cutting cheese at Whole Foods.
HOPE: He says "I am grateful that NEMRF helped me pay my rent while I searched for a job, and I feel incredibly lucky to have this job at Whole Foods, but I miss performing with all my heart. I have no desire to stake my claim on a cheese career. Horn playing is my life, and I am holding out hope that I can return to performing soon. I come home from the store exhausted, but the first thing I do is take my horn out and play for two hours, just to try to maintain my chops until I can get back on stage. I just don't know how long I can keep it up."
